Step 1

If you already have JDK 1.4.2 or JRE 1.4.2 (or later) installed you can skip this step. Otherwise you need download the JRE1.4.1 from Sun. You find it here or if you run Apple OS X look here. It is recommended that you install it in a directory with no spaces in the name. If you do have spaces in the name please see the FAQ entry no spaces.

Step 2

Create a new directory (for example $HOME/jasl9 or C:\jasl9) and download jasl9.zip (~3.4 MB) to it. Unzip the content (jasl9p.jar) to the same directory. Note: once you have extracted the JAR file do not unzip it further (this is a Java executable file using the Zip format and may appear as a Zip file to your desktop tools).

The user manual in PDF format (it is not included in the JASL ZIP file).

Additionally, there are two Quick Reference Charts being used for programming JASL that you can download. One for Ordnance attacks and one for Infantry and Support Weapons. Let me know if you find any errors in them, please! They are, however, not required for playing.

Step 3

Start by double clicking on the jar file or on the jasl.bat (win) or jasl.sh (Unix) script files. Or start by typing

    java -jar jasl9p.jar com.thuring.jasl.jaslgui.JaslStart

on the command line (CLASSPATH must be set to include the JRE).

If you have problem with this - modify the file jasl.bat or jasl.sh to fit your system.

On the Apple OSX 10.2.4 or later is required. Do not unpack the jar file!
